Picking up where I left off yesterday I am trying to experiment with the way I approach my drawings, and how I use the pencil. I usually am I happy with my drawing in the initial 30 second stage, but when I try to refine I'm not confident. I did 2 minute poses and then 2 x 10 minutes. I used pixelovely for references

Today I was trying to break free from the pencil or the ballpoint, so I started with a pastel stick. I then went back to pencil and try to use the sides of the pencil to loosen up. It's still kinda stiff, but I am feeling I'm getting somewhere. It's not about creating a pretty picture but about learning!

These were from last night, but I was too lazy to scan them in.
Did some Bridgeman and then afterwards a sheet of 30 sec poses (horribly :P)

Today's menu was some quick loomis..but then I immediately switched to some drawings from flickr (medieval re-enactment) for some slower studies than usual.

Today some more posedrawings from the web! Started with some outlines, and then searching for simple shapes. I did 30 second poses for this, except for the end I did a page with 2 minutes and tried to give some character to the figures.

These are all from life drawing @ Sol Art - Dawson Street 8 in Dublin. I had a pint before I went in to draw and I don't think it really helped me :P

More gesture drawing! And some studies of the knee! Determined to become better at drawing! :)
All drawings here are 1 minute from this handy little website: http://www.pixelovely.com/gesture/figuredrawing.php
I picked a normal pencil this time, because even though I like coloured pencils they don't scan well...

Back to studying from photographs, did a series of 30 second, 1 minute, 5 mins and finally 10 minute poses for half an hour.

123: Life Drawing Dublin

Life drawing at 8 Dawson Street for long poses! Unfortunately scanning pastel drawings, doesn't seem to really work. I normally find that pencil drawings can look better once scanned, but the same doesn't work for pastel it seems. Might take a picture if I can find my camera for a better representation. Drawing time: 15-30 min per drawing

These were the 10 warm up sketches, 1 minute each,
The first page is with a colouring pencil, second page is a 2B pencil.

And this was the first drawing of the long pose...meh :(

And here a quick one:

122: Life Drawing Dublin

So yesterday I went to the Tuesday Drawing session @ 8 Dawson Street in Dublin. I enjoyed the session, but I realise I need to refresh my anatomy to get the most out of it! Back on Thursday for long poses!

1 minute poses:

Longer poses: (5 mins - 20 mins)
I never really used the full lenght of the time we had, I brought a new A3 sketchbook, but the paper is very thin and it doesn't really suit in my opinion to slow pencildrawings. I prefer paper with good texture for a nice pencildrawing. So I did some drawings with heavy B pencils and new pastel pencils I got last weekend. Next time I'm going to maybe take some ink along for some washes.

I've been drawing daily but I've been doing studies of some books, so I'm not really posting them up. Today I did a few rubbish sketches and I guess this one turned out best (still kinda rubbish though :P). Going to switch to my conceptual sketchbook now!
