187: Hand Studies + Study tips

I am starting a week of daily hand drawing, here's todays page :

As a general base for my studies I used Bridgman's more sculptural approach. Don't worry about individual muscles on fingers or how everything works underneath, but instead focus on the general broader shape. You can get the free e-book here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/4461737/Constructive-Anatomy-by-George-Bridgman

I used posemaniacs for the references, they provide free 3d models that you can rotate in full 360 degrees. They are not detailed so it's easier to be general with your description of the hands. When you pick images you can easily get stuck on value, color, wrinkles, etc.. These force you to stay simple! link: http://www.posemaniacs.com/tools/handviewer/

185: Morning Warm Ups

Life drawing always gets me pumped to draw the figure, I could just draw figures all day every day... it's just so interesting and fun! So here we are again with warm ups: Untimed drawing and start of some painting (since I didn't touch a digital brush in a very long time)

30 second posemaniacs - Halfway in the first page I switched to drawing single strokes instead of roughing a line. It's an interesting approach to these:

Some drawings of bypassers while I was waiting for a friend

184: Week 2 Sol Art

Alrighty! First of all big thanks to Laura for stopping by and commenting on my blog :) I am still contemplating coming back to facebook, but it's too much of a distraction...it's funny because I sometimes forget that people do actually check my blog every once in a blue moon. I see it more as a digital back up of my sketchbook should everything go up in flames tomorrow :P

Anyway, I forced myself into the life drawing session again and had a pretty enjoyable time although I was stuck looking at the back - straight on of the model for most of the time. So I made several renditions of the models' face, trying to figure out the character. I don't think I was very successful, but I was certainly getting closer to the "truth" by the end of it.

1 minute warm ups:

Here is that "portrait" journey:

I was grumpy so sketched one of the artists:

Back to drawing the face...boooh...fail!

Let's try this again but with some character!

Now apply what we've discovered in a full body drawing (really messed up, but I like the dace)
