Samura Cont'd

All these sketches are from the Blade of the Immortal Omnibus 4. His art actually gets better as the series continues, by omnibus 7 my jaw hits the ground every couple of pages.

Daily Pages

Continuing with my daily pages, I'm tight on time so doing these pretty rushed. But still better to do them, than to skip it.

Artist studies + Progress

Continuing to sketch from my chosen masters, I should put some more time into the but better to fill a page than to wait until there's more time to do it properly.

I made a list of the challenges I've set myself and my progress. The goal is to complete 50 pages of a specific subject (artist studies, hands, feet, etc..). So currently I am tracking them on an excel sheet.
I'm on the last 10 pages for a few of these: Heads, hands and the Artist Study : John Buscema. I'll try and complete the hands and heads this year still..somehow just lost track of things :P

Originally I was going to continue once I completed a challenge (like the Mannikin), but I think it's better to create a new challenge. Potentially a Mannikin LVL2, and set some new parameters to keep things interesting.

Studies

I've let my drawing practice slip, time to bring it the sketch book more often. Doing more artist studies (bad ones..to uphold tradition! :P)

I've always loved Samura's gestural work on Blade of the Immortal, although how I discovered him was by random volumes of Blade of the Immortal on sale on a second hand shop. So only years later I tried reading from the start, and I didn't really like his artwork/ storytelling in the first volumes. But it's very interesting to trace his development as an artist. He's also a huge inspiration from guys like Otomo (Akira).
