DSC 62
There was a contest to win a Bobby Chiu painting today. A one hour challenge to draw a 2000 year old creature.
Day 61
Hey, I noticed there's more people following my blog! Thanks! Well I have to apologise for some crappy drawings then :D But those bad drawings are the most important ones, don't forget Disney's great quote "We all have 10,000 bad drawings in us so the sooner you get them out the better".
Today I did some memory sketches again using posemaniacs, pick a pose using the random poseviewer. Observe it and then recreate the pose in your sketchbook. This time I drew a little frame first in the corner of my page to help me break down the line of action and proportions a bit better before going in rough. Definitly got some better results this time around. The next and shoulder I always find a real difficult thing to draw, especially from bird perspective, there are just so many connections (the head, the shoulders, arms, breasts, spine...they all journey to that one center).
In grey you can see my memory drawings, and then next to it the pose drawn from reference.

Day 60
I was working untill the early morning hours yesterday after coming from an inspiring talk by Richard Baneham (supervising animator on Avatar), Tom Moore (director and creator of Secret of Kells) and2 more guests who directed the short Granny Grimm's Sleeping Beauty. All of these guys are graduates from my college and are nominated this year for an Academy award. (special effects - feature film - short)
They kept putting the stress on "story", to really push story in all your work. Anyway yesterday's sketches I did were character concepts for our group script project.

Day 59
Same exercise as yesterday! It's a hard one! Actually I changed it up a bit where I allowed myself from the third drawing to exaggerate the pose and turn it into a more stylized drawing. Some succesful and some not.

This one definitly turned out best, a lot better then the references drawing anyway which I screwed up :D

Day 58
Wohaaooo! I've been gone for a week from this sketchbook!
I was really worn out so I took some time to get some sleep and recover some energy.
But it's time to step back into action!
The best way to learn new stuff is not to make pretty pictures, and to prove it here are some awfull looking images :D Using posemaniacs I looked at a pose for a coupleof seconds and then tried to draw that pose in my sketchbook leaving room for another sketch beside it using the reference.
I think it's a great way to see what your weaknesses are! And great training for your memory muscle too!
I'll try and do tis for a few days and see if I get any better using this method.
greyed out are the sketches drawn from memory and then next to them the drawing from reference (posemaniacs)

Day 56
Tomorrow I have a party so I thought I'd do my sketches this night. And technically it is already friday! These are sketches for a character design I have to do on our group script. His name is Graham, he's a romantic soul who lost his wife when she died of cancer, he could never really deal with this so he always looks at the stars through his telescope in the hope to find his wife. As a result he became a heavy drinker.
