Day 46

Did I say I wasn't going to do figure studies?
Haha, well I went on youtube to find some references of women walking on high heels, for my walk cycle that I'll be doing for animation..and if you are familiar with youtube you start in one place and 2 hours later you're watching dogs eat bananas.

So I ended up on booty shaking videos, yes apparently that's what people do in their spare time, but some cool nice movements of the human (female) body. I thought it would be great to draw as a study for exagerated hip movements in my animation...so here goes:

These last ones were faste drawings, so I simplified my shapes a bit for these drawings, and I think they capture movement the best.

Day 45

I missed yesterday but I was working 8 hours straight on my animation after I came home from college, so it's not like I took the day off.

I think I'll stop my figure studies for a while and do some different work in my daily one hour,
for one just draw some conceptual stuff. It's really from drawing from your mind that you realize what parts you struggle with and what exactly you have learned.

Anyway I started with 90 second drawings from posemaniacs:

Halfway the next page I realised that the proportions were off and I wasn't getting "the pose". So I drew out a simple quick frame to map out the points of the body and then use the rest of the 90secs to draw as much on top as time allowed:

I then did a page of memory drawings where I look at the pose, draw points of the where the main body elements are and then draw the figure from memory (no timelimit):

Realising I wasn't really into it, I just stopped and starting to do some sketches:

day 44

Today I just slept all day and then watched Who framed Roger Rabbit...yeah, not really the most productive day ever. Anyway some sketchwork before I get ready to go to work.

I tried to simplify and stylize the figure on the first page:

Then I tried to draw some points of the main bodyparts, and then full in the drawing from emmory, afterwards I went back to it and corrected some of it. I think this way of working will hoepfully develop my knowledge for conseptual work.

Day 43

A page of Glem Keane studies...

Then again try to keep that mindset for some studies at characterdesigns...

Day 42

Today I started my hour by doing some sketches of Glen Kean's work on Tarzan, he's a fantastic artist and Tarzan is probbaly one of the most impressive animated human characters, it's impossible not to be impressed by it.

Second half I did some 90 second poses on posemaniacs while trying to carry over some of the energy of the previous sketches.

Day 41

We're going to draw heads next week so might aswell do some studies...zzzz

Day 40

I dropped the ball for 2 days, I didn't do any daily sketchwork, even though I was working on some other projects for college, it's just no excuse. But here we are again, it's 1am but that won't stop us.

Anyway, sometimes you need to change things a bit, so I decided to do some tonal studies, using black, grey and leaving the white of the page. It's tricky to find those simple shapes, but I think I would benifit from this for painting.

Day 39

Since we have a full day of life drawing tomorrow///oh wait, today actually since it's after midnight, I thought I'd do some quick studies. We never really spend more then 3 minutes per pose in class, so working quick is key.
I worked with posemaniacs set to 90 seconds per pose for all drawings today:

Day 38

30 second poses (posemaniacs)

I got kind of bored, so just drew some poses from the mind...

Day 37

Some more male figures...

And again some 30 second poses...I should really do these at the beginning of the session to loosen up instead of at the end ... ah well!
