Gesture Studies 2B flat pencil

I was flicking through a magazine called DRAW! and was reminded to practice drawing with the side of a pencil for more gestural, loose work.

So I did some timed gestures:

Brush Ink

Here's another exercise. Copying some comic book art but straight with a brush, no sketch. My thoughts are that this is a good way to practice your drawing ability with the brush, instead of timidly drawing over pencils.

Studies

So I've been trying to draw a page of my hand every day for the last month or so:

But I haven't been drawing a page from memory / imagination every day. This is the key to try and get better at drawing hands, it's why it's the one exercise often avoided haha. Terrible page, I've done better...but Christmas dinner is still weighing heavy :D

And trying to draw from comics again. John Byrne this time, I don't really know what I like about his art,. it's not always good drawing, but there\'s something appealing about his work.

Hand Studies

So this is the perfect study session.

1: Copy some plates from Loomis:

2: Draw from life (your own hand):

3: Now without reference, how did you do? The more you do it, the better this will become. (obviously I haven't done it enough :D)

and some Byrne

Hands and Faces

The one thing we have available all the time, our hands. Trying to fill a little page with sketches every day.
Also some copies of John Byrne on Fantastic Four.
